The author of Flirting with Scandal presents her third book in a sexy contemporary romance series about three sisters in a powerful political family, the scandals that threaten to destroy them, and the passion that drives them…

Kate Reynolds has just graduated from college and is determined to make it on her own. Her job as a junior political analyst at the CIA is a dream come true and the perfect opportunity to find answers about the night that’s plagued her for four years—the night she lost her fiancĂ©, Matt, on a Special Forces mission in Afghanistan. Kate’s consumed with uncovering the truth and avenging the man she loved and lost, even if it means risking her own life to prove that his death wasn’t an accident.

When she gets too close to discovering what happened that fateful night and danger arrives on her doorstep, Kate’s stunned by the man who comes to her rescue. Together, they begin to dig for the truth, fighting to stay alive as they’re dragged down into a world of secrets and lies. But when the threat hits close to home, Kate must choose between vengeance and a future with the man who’s ignited a fire inside her that she thought died long ago.

My Rating:

Favorite Quotes:

“It was like staring at his reflection in a carnival mirror – the image before me was Matt and yet it wasn’t – he’d been distorted into something else entirely.”

“She wasn’t loud by nature, and frequently people assumed that meant she was shy and thought they could walk all over her, but the reality was that Blair was way bossier than I was.  She was just quiet about it, whereas I wasn’t quiet about much.”

“We dined on a main course of death, treason, and betrayal.  For dessert, we had explosives and attempted filicide.”

“In the years when I’d thought Matt was dead, I’d learned that home wasn’t a place and family wasn’t a last name.  All that mattered were the people that loved you.”

My Review:

I had greatly enjoyed Ms. Cleeton’s Playing With Trouble, but I struggled to stay engaged with this installment.  I found Falling for Danger rather slow-moving, and it felt like the characters were metaphorically running in place or swimming in circles.  Maybe it is just me, but it seemed like the series simply ran out of energy as the Capital Confessions trilogy came to a conclusion.  Or maybe it was the ending and lack of actual closure that has me feeling this way.  Not to say that the finished product was unpleasant or lackluster, as that is not the case.  Ms. Cleeton’s use of humor and flair for steam continue to shine through, just not as brightly as in her earlier work.

About the Author:

Originally a Florida girl, CHANEL CLEETON moved to London where she received a bachelor’s degree from Richmond, The American International University in London and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Chanel fell in love with London and planned to stay there forever, until fate intervened on a Caribbean cruise and a fighter pilot with smooth dance moves swept her off her feet.

Now, a happily ever after later, Chanel is living her next adventure. Law school made Chanel realize she’d rather spend her days writing sexy stories than in a courtroom, and she hasn’t looked back since. An avid reader and hopeless romantic, she’s happiest curled up with a book. She has a weakness for handbags, her three pups, and her husband.

Chanel writes contemporary romances. She is published by Harlequin HQN, Penguin/InterMix, and Penguin/Berkley and is the author of the International School, Capital Confessions, and Wild Aces series.
