Book Review: Seizing Control - Black Shamrocks MC #1 by Kylie Hillman

Seizing Control -Black Shamrocks MC #1
by Kylie Hillman

When a monster owns your past, can you control your future?

Only daughter of the volatile President of the Black Shamrocks MC and long-suffering sister to four overprotective brothers, Madelaine O'Brien has survived circumstances that would have broken a lesser woman.

Mik 'Mad Dog' Kennedy is her salvation, her reward for continuing to fight, and the matching piece of her soul.

With her life finally happy and on track, will the reappearance of the monster from her past be the event that finally breaks her? Or will he be the catalyst she needs to put it all behind her, once and for all?

They say when life gives you lemons; make lemonade. What happens when life keeps sending you demons who refuse to stay buried? Do you lie down and accept defeat or rise to the seemingly unwinnable challenge, and start SEIZING CONTROL?

My Review:

If I had to describe this book with one word it would be Savage.

I have never read an MC book that has even come close to this degree of a dark and twisted plot. I don't think SONS could hold a candle to the first book in this series. There were a number of things going on this book and it felt like it took me forever to finish. I want to list all of the highlights of the book - but I think that would be giving out spoilers.

The thing I loved most was how strong the female character was.  She was beaten, abused, and torn to pieces - but she found a way to put herself back together with the help of her soul-mate and family. I think most people would break being put through everything that happened to her.

This is not a book for the light of heart. I think that if you were a K. Webster or Pepper Winters fan who also loved MC romances, you would enjoy this book. It is definitely on the darker side of the MC genre. I think the thing that surprised me the most was how much I liked this book despite all the back-flashes, as I usually hate frequent POV switches and back flashes.  But the author did a wonderful job with the flow, and the story was easy to read.

I am excited to read the other books in this series and wonder - will they will live up to this book or will they wilt in its shadow?

About the Author:

Crohn's Disease sufferer and awareness campaigner.
She’s also an avid tea drinker, a connoisseur of 80's/90's rock music, and is known for lacing everything she says with sarcasm and inappropriate innuendo.

Restarting her childhood hobbies of writing and reading to alleviate the monotony of being sick and housebound, she found her calling and is enjoying life to the max. A typical day is spent in the "real" world where she hangs out with her awesome family and "book" world where she gets to chill with her fictional characters.

Kylie writes the books she wants to read. A lover of strong men who aren't perfect and aren't afraid to admit it, straight talking women who embrace their vulnerabilities, and real life gritty stories, she hopes these themes shine through her writing. An avid reader of all genres, Kylie hopes to release books that keep the reader on the edge of their seat- be it with suspense, heart-stopping thrills, or laughter.
