From the bestselling author of Everything We Keep comes a gripping tale of long-buried secrets, the strength of forgiveness, and the healing power of returning home for good.

After a harrowing accident tore her family apart, Molly Brennan fled from the man she loved and the tragic mistake she made.

Twelve years later, Molly has created a new life for herself and her eight-year-old daughter, Cassie. The art history professor crafts jewelry as unique and weathered as the surf-tumbled sea glass she collects, while raising her daughter in a safe and loving environment—something Molly never had. But when Cassie is plagued by horrific visions and debilitating nightmares, Molly is forced to return to the one place she swore she’d never move back to—home to Pacific Grove.

A riveting exploration of love, secrets, and motherhood, All the Breaking Waves is the poignant story of a woman who discovers she must confront her past, let go of her guilt, and summon everything in her power to save her daughter.

Favorite Quotes:

Behind her, the dining table had been set with Nana’s china and crystal. I wasn’t lost on me that while Nana and her friends played poker like scoundrels and swore like sailors, they dined like ladies.

Outside, the rain had stopped, and the winds calmed, leaving the night air crisp and salty. Above us, a fitted sheet of stars glittered behind clouds outlined in moonlight.

Phoebe led us into the kitchen which looked like a cereal factory had exploded. Cheerios and wheat flakes crunched under our feet… ‘I think you have gremlin problems.’

My Review:

I quickly fell down the rabbit hole once I started this book and had trouble putting my kindle down. I was spellbound by Ms. Lonsdale’s storyline and captivated by her vivid descriptions. For example, a woman’s earrings didn’t just dangle, they were, “swaying like little children on swings.” She placed me within the story and I was right there – I swear I could smell and taste the food, feel the salty ocean winds and rain, and hear the squeaking of the wooden floorboards. Ms. Lonsdale has mad skills and I want to read everything she ever writes. The writing was enticing, intriguing, and well-paced in an infuriatingly ingenious manner.   I fell in love with Owen although all the characters were fascinating, unique, flawed, and not always likable – with the exception of Owen who was absolutely swoon-worthy and perfect. Sigh, a perfect man – which was a dead giveaway that this fantastic book was a work of fiction.
